La fête du Moulin

Yesterday we celebrated Father's Day in the US and national windmill day here in France!  Jane (our fellow helpx friend from New Zealand) Andrew, and I took off on our bikes after breakfast, pedaling toward the tiny town of Coulx.  Here's what we found:

Biked 2 hours to this teeny tiny town.  Coulx has the only two buildings apparently necessary to be an official town in France: a really old church and a Mairie.

We joined a picnic celebrating the Moulin du Coulx.  Apple tarts, coffee, pizza, grilled sandwiches, chips, wine, prunes, Coke, and more wine were all on sale.  Along with packed meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a baguette from the next town over, a typical lunch for an atypical occasion.

Here's the windmill at work.  It was built in 1795, then restored in 2001.

Powered by the wind, freshly stone ground flour.  It still exists.

  1. What a fun day you had! We love these photos, including the ones just posted in your gallery. France seems to suit you both.
